Nedamco Africa joins the ecosystem made by the partnership between UNFCCC and Microsoft

Nedamco Africa joined the UNFCCC partnership with Microsoft and EY to create the Climate Data Hub and to make global climate data more available and transparent.

Good information supports good policy and decision-making. As nations around the world work to meet climate goals, they need access to clear, actionable climate data.

Collected under the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), that data includes reports on emissions, mitigation, adaptation, and support. However, with more than 190 countries submitting climate reports in different formats—from PDFs to spreadsheets to text documents—it’s difficult for stakeholders to access, analyze, and compare information. That complexity has slowed learning and collaboration.

To make global climate data more available and transparent, UN Climate Change partnered with Microsoft, EY, and Nedamco Africa in 2023 to create the Climate Data Hub—a modern, AI-powered platform designed to unify and simplify climate data, making it open and accessible to users around the world. Microsoft is building the platform with dashboards, analytics, simulations, and other strategic tools to help countries maximize the effectiveness of climate policies and actions.

The Climate Data Hub manages and analyzes data from more than 190 nations under the Paris Agreement in a centralized manner. The intuitive, data-driven interface allows users to explore information through simple queries, easily transforming raw data into actionable insights and visual representations such as charts and graphs.

National leaders and policymakers can review their nation’s progress toward specific climate goals. Using advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI tools, users can track emissions and progress across sectors and run simulations to demonstrate the impact of climate actions and plan for the future.

“Policymakers can validate decisions, benchmark progress, and learn from peers,” says Xuehong Wang, Director of Transparency at UN Climate Change. “They can get clear, contextual answers drawn directly from national reports.”

Imagine you’re an officer in a support-providing agency requiring urgent insights on the key needs of a developing country facing a climate crisis. With the Climate Data Hub, you gain real-time insight into support and funding opportunities that can make a difference.

AI plays a vital role in the Climate Data Hub. With AI tools, users can quickly make sense of information and extract insights to aid analysis and climate policies.

“Researchers can explore official datasets, generate tailored analyses, and strengthen their studies and models,” says Gayatri Nemali, Manager of Information and Communications Technology at UN Climate Change. “It’s not just a data platform—it’s a bridge between science, policy, and implementation.”

In partnership with UN Climate Change and others, Microsoft is building a technology platform that can be continuously trained and improved over time. The Climate Data Hub is making climate data transparent in new and powerful ways. It represents a shift from manually aggregated data toward AI-driven analytics.

The Climate Data Hub will help nations around the world close the gap between their climate goals and implementation. Bringing powerful technology together with international cooperation, the platform lays the foundation for better-informed decisions. At Microsoft, we’re proud to support UN Climate Change with technology that enables parties—and individuals—to take measurable steps toward a low emission and climate resilient future.

Incredible to see how far the Climate Data Hub partnership between UNFCCC and Microsoft has come. The progress in this video shows what’s possible when global partners align around transparency, trust, and high-quality climate data.

For us at Nedamco Africa, joining this ecosystem is more than collaboration. It is a chance to help unlock what is truly possible for countries: real measurement, real impact, and real access to climate finance. We’re excited for what this means for Africa and for the future of digital MRV.
