climate fin-tech as a service
National Sustainability Command Center
The National Sustainability Command Center (NSCC), designed and developed by Microsoft, is at the core of our technology stack. This GenAI-driven climate intelligence platform integrates data from all levels—global, national, regional, and local—into a centralized command center. The NSCC features dedicated digital twin modules in critical areas like water, carbon, plastic, biodiversity, wildfire prediction, and flood forecasting. Each module delivers targeted insights to support specialized government agencies, such as water management and forestry departments. When combined, these modules provide overarching insights that far exceed the value of any module on its own, offering a comprehensive view that enables governments to simulate different climate intervention scenarios and make strategic decisions for climate resilience. In addition, these digital twins support the transparent issuance of environmental credits, fueling targeted climate interventions and financing.
Nedamco Africa is making important strides in creating climate resilience and sustainable development across the continent with state-of-the-art Digital Twin technology. In collaboration with international organizations like the United Nations, Worldbank, International Red Cross and world-renowned authoritative institutions like Deltares and HKV, we’re implementing solutions to address Africa’s climate challenges.
Our latest initiatives focus on supporting water management, flood protection, and environmental monitoring, equipping governments with critical tools to tackle climate-related risks. The NSSC empower local and central governments with real-time insights to make informed, impactful decisions.
Our key water initiatives
1. Early warning for urban floods
Floods are among the world’s deadliest natural disasters. Amid climate change, floods are intensifying.
- Urban Flooding: In urban areas prone to flash flooding from sudden rainfall, we’re introducing early warning systems that monitor real-time rainfall and alert authorities when floods are likely. This system, will help communities prepare and respond quickly to protect lives and infrastructure.
- River Flooding: For regions affected by river floods, our forecasting system uses advanced data models to predict rising water levels. This allows for timely alerts and preparedness actions, reducing the risks of large-scale flooding.
2. Water Availability and Demand Analysis
The Water Information Platform (WIP) offers real-time insights into water availability (rivers, reservoirs, groundwater, rainfall) and demand (agriculture, industry, environment). It supports sustainable water management by visualizing supply-demand dynamics and fostering collaboration among stakeholders like power companies, farmers, and water utilities. The Water Information Platform integrates data to prioritize usage during shortages and inform stakeholders.
3. Groundwater Monitoring
Groundwater is a key resource for many African communities. The Groundwater Monitoring Dashboard keeps track of groundwater levels and usage to prevent overuse and support drought resilience. In cooperation with experts, this tool provides valuable insights for water conservation in vulnerable regions.
4. Soil Erosion Monitoring
Soil erosion affects agriculture, water quality, and flood risks, posing significant challenges to sustainable development. The Soil Erosion Tracker, developed in collaboration with HKV, uses satellite data and advanced modeling to identify erosion patterns and high-risk zones. This empowers communities to take preventive actions, implement soil conservation practices, and ensure long-term environmental stability.
5. Landslide Risk Assessment and Forecasting
In landslide-prone areas, the Landslide Warning System assesses risk based on terrain, soil characteristics, vegetation cover, and rainfall. Developed with international expertise, this system provides early warnings to help authorities protect communities and infrastructure.
These Digital Twin initiatives bring together the expertise of the United Nations, Worldbank, International Red Cross and world-renowned authoritative institutions like Deltares and HKV, providing governments across Africa with powerful tools to manage water resources, predict floods, and protect the environment. Integrated into the National Sustainability Command Center, these solutions empower African governments to proactively address climate challenges, building a safer, more resilient future for communities and ecosystems alike.
